We align what matters to our employees and the communities where we live and work with who we are and what we stand for as a company. We turn our values into local action through equity-centered community engagement efforts.

Applied and the Applied Materials Foundation deploy charitable and human resources around the world supporting organizations that offer services without discriminating against any group or individual.


Employee Engagement

Employee engagement amplifies our positive community impact, often via company-initiated events that connect our people with local non-profits.

Employees volunteer for a variety of causes of interest and can also maximize their personal charity support through our Matching Gift and Volunteer Time Grant programs.



The Generation Girl® Initiative

We believe all girls should have the opportunity to realize their full potential. Through the Generation Girl initiative, a program of the Applied Materials Foundation, we are working with nonprofit organizations throughout the United States to help girls gain the confidence, skills and opportunities to succeed.

Grant Guidelines

Grant requests focused on Education, Arts and Culture, Civic Engagement, and the Environment are reviewed semi-annually, following two submission deadlines each year: January 15 and June 15.

Applications for funding for the Generation Girl initiative are accepted each fall by invitation only and are due by September 15.


Ethics and Compliance

We are committed to upholding the highest ethical standards and ensuring compliance in the workplace and all business activities. Responsibility and integrity are core to our success and vital to creating a culture of mutual trust and respect with our stakeholders—including employees, customers, suppliers, competitors and the public.

Applied offers a 24-hour global toll-free Ethics Helpline (1-877-225-5554) for reporting concerns. Callers may opt to remain anonymous.



Standards of Business Conduct

To maintain our strong and consistent culture of ethics, Applied Materials has a uniform Standards of Business Conduct (SBC) code that applies to our entire global workforce. These Standards help guide our employees and leadership to make decisions that are aligned with our values. The SBC is available to all employees, as well as to the public, in 11 languages.

Ethics Training

All new employees must complete training on Standards of Business Conduct and anti-corruption within their first three weeks on the job. To continuously foster our values-based culture, we offer SBC training to all employees online, with additional specialized sessions for managers.


The annual Responsibility & Integrity Week shows Applied’s values in action as we bring relevant themes, resources and best practices to our entire global workforce. Conducted virtually, the programming features insights from executive and regional leadership and attracted over 38,500 views in 2022.

Ethics Survey

To assess our ongoing progress, we conduct a biannual, company-wide employee survey on ethics. The survey addresses five key attributes most strongly connected to reducing misconduct risk: comfort speaking up, organizational justice, tone at the top, clarity of expectations and openness of communication.



Public Policy

We interact with government officials, elected representatives and candidates to advocate for the company, our stakeholders and the business and trade associations to which we belong. These efforts, led by the Government Affairs group, aim to help shape public policy on issues that affect our business and increase opportunities across the entire industry.



Political Contributions and Governance

Within the bounds of applicable laws, the Applied Materials, Inc. Political Action Committee (AMPAC) contributes to federal candidates and political action committees or party committees supporting issues of strategic importance to the company. Our State Contributions Committee oversees corporate political spending to advance those issues at the state and local levels.

AMPAC regularly files its contributions reports with the Federal Election Commission, and these are available online. While the company pays its administrative expenses, AMPAC is funded entirely through voluntary contributions from eligible employees. Its activities are overseen by the AMPAC Board of Directors.

Applied belongs to various business and trade associations representing issues that align with our corporate strategy and the needs of our company, industry, employees and communities. Our membership in a group does not imply that we endorse the entirety of that group's policy positions.
